In 2001 at age 20, Andy strapped into a race car for the very first time and earned Rookie of the Year honors in the highly competitive 270 microsprint division at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. Over the next three seasons, he claimed seven feature wins including victories in the prestigious Clyde Martin Memorial Race in 2002 and 2004.
In 2004, Andy began racing in the 600 microsprint class and in February of that year won the 600 point championship for the week-long Florida Microsprint Winternationals. 2004 also saw Andy test the waters of midget racing when car owner/driver Mike Miller gave him the opportunity to compete in a couple of races. His 4th and 8th place finishes convinced Andy to run the full ARDC Midget schedule in 2005.
When the ARDC Midgets took their first green flag of the 2005 season at the historic Williams Grove Speedway, as a rookie, Andy was required to start the 20-lap feature at the back of the field in 20th position. He raised many an eyebrow as he charged from mid-pack late in the race, utilizing the high line to blaze a path to a solid 4th place |

finish. On September 10th at Little Valley Speedway in New York, Andy won his first ARDC Midget race. Andy was named the 2005 ARDC Midget Rookie of the year and finished 3rd in overall points. His stellar rookie season included 1 win, 11 top five and 18 top ten finishes.
Before the start of the 2006 racing season, Andy had already set a goal: The ARDC Point Championship. He achieved that goal with 2 wins, 9 top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes. Because the 2006 Point Championship was won with only a 3 point margin over second place, Andy was determined to finish stronger in 2007.
The 2007 season was off to a great start with a win at the ARDC opener at Susquehanna Speedway. Although the 2007 season included an unprecedented 3 DNFs for Andy, 3 victories along with 12 other top 10 finishes enabled him to clinch his second ARDC Point Championship even before the green flag dropped on the final race of the season.
Andy is realistic about the 2008 season. Because of a prior personal commitment, he won't be making the "North Carolina Swing" which means no points for 2 races. But anyone who knows Andy, knows he'll still be racing hard to the finish. |
